FLOATING ISLANDS
5 APR - 30 APR.2021
FLOATING ISLANDS Invitational Exhibition
“Putting myself in the river and following the unseen paths,
My body is encroached and floating.
Piled up in layers to make a horizon of memories they become an island.”
A floating island refers to an island consisting of water plants piled up for many years. It is a natural phenomenon that can be seen mainly in rivers and wetlands. It is a journey through which we find our identity by studying objects and human beings in our daily lives.
“As a photographer, who am I, and for what reasons do I take photos?”
We remember moments through photos. As a photographer, we catch moments and record them as our memories, not mine only. Such small memories are accumulated in layers, becoming an island and floating in times.
Revealing photographers’ inner life through questions about identity and private stories, this exhibition begins with introspection and fundamental questions about their various lives. Through essential questions about family, identity, imagination, liberty, and social issues, the exhibition shows photographers’ views of the world and the journey of life that they have seen, imagined, and experienced.
A total of 21 photographers from Germany, United States, India, Japan, China, Peru, The Philippines, Thailand, and South Korea participate in the exhibition. It takes place both online and offline. For the online exhibition, an individual room is provided for each photographer. This helps visitors experience an extended from physical exhibition to online exhibition.
